Hello. My name is Kim LaPlante (pronounced plant). This is my 18th year at Loganville Middle School, and I teach 6th grade language arts on Pod 601b. I began teaching at Loganville Middle in 1997 and taught a Career Education class for my first 6 years. Since then, I have taught 6th grade Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.
I received an Associates degree in English from Albany Junior College and then continued my studies at the University of Georgia where I received my Bachelor's Degree in English. I completed my Secondary English certification through the Education Department at the University of Georgia. In the past few years I have completed an Administrative Leadership add-on certificiate and an Ed.D. in Teacher Leadership.
I student taught in a middle school and fell in love with middle schoolers. I began my teaching career at Shiloh Middle School where I taught 8th grade Social Studies; 7th grade Social Studies and Language Arts; and P.E./Health, Journalism, and computers. During this time I received a master's degree in Middle Grades with a concentration in social studies, science, and language arts. After being at Shiloh for 7 years, I became an instructional technology specialist in Rockdale County.
My husband, Larry, is a Northerner from New Hampshire. Me, I’m a South Georgia girl at heart with roots in Putney, Georgia, just outside of Albany. I graduated from the University of Georgia many moons ago (go Dawgs!) and decided to stay in the area. My husband works as a consultant for the environmental division of Booz/Allen/Hamilton in downtown Atlanta. My daughter, Hannah, is a senior at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, and my son, Ryan, is starting Georgia Perimeter College this fall as a freshman. Both attended Walton County Schools and graduate from Loganville High. Having my own children has definitely enriched my own teaching...and has taught me many things about boys and organization, or the lack thereof J.
This is my 27th year teaching and my 19th year at Loganville Middle; I have experience in all three middle grades and have taught every subject except math. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Middle Grades education with a concentration in social studies, language arts, and science. (I also have 7-12 English certification.) I have my leadership certification, and I completed my Ed.D. in Teacher Leadership in 2010.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy being with my family, playing indoor soccer, running/walking, reading, working on my photo albums, and participating in church activities.
